Erasmo Purificato is a Scientific Project Officer at the European Centre for Algorithmic Transparency (ECAT) of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).

Erasmo Purificato is a Scientific Project Officer at the European Centre for Algorithmic Transparency (ECAT) of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), focusing on trustworthy algorithmic systems and algorithmic fairness. He coordinated the study on the impact of Artificial Intelligence in scientific research. Erasmo holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU), with a dissertation entitled “Fairness Analysis of Graph Neural Networks for Behavioral User Modeling”. Previously, he worked as a Research Assistant in the Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence group at OVGU and the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) in Germany.

He is author of several scientific contributions in top-tier journals, such as International Journal of Human–Computer Interaction (IJHCI), IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG) and Multimedia Tools and Applications (MTAP), and top-tier conferences, such as RecSys (ACM Conference on Recommender Systems), CIKM (ACM International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management), SIGIR (International ACM Conference on Research and Development in Information Retrieval) and UMAP (ACM International Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization). Erasmo recently won the Best Full Paper Award at RecSys 2025 with the paper “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers: Mitigating Unwanted Recommendation Through Conformal Risk Control”.
