Professor Oliver Stegle is a computational biologist who is developing machine learning methods for deciphering molecular variation across individuals, space and time.

Oliver Stegle is a computational biologist who is developing machine learning methods for deciphering molecular variation across individuals, space and time. He earned his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Cambridge (UK) in 2009. Following this, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute in Tübingen, Germany from 2009 to 2012. He joined the European Molecular Biology Lab-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) from 2012 to 2019. Since 2018, he has been the Division Head at DKFZ, and Group Leader at EMBL Heidelberg since 2019. He is a European Research Council (ERC) Investigator and elected EMBO member. He is an ELLIS fellow and co-directs the Health programme of the European Laboratory for Learning in Intelligent Systems (ELLIS). He is involved in several genomics networks and initiatives, including the Human Cell Atlas project (HCA).
